As if I don’t stick out like a sore thumb already, I just have to dare to be different. I went riding around Wudaokou wearing that vintage fur coat and a lot of the locals either commented or looked at me like I’m crazy. But as long as I got their attention, I’m doing something right.
So living in China I meet so many different people from all around the world. My friend Piotr Spalek, an Polish-Italian photographer and I decide to reenact the amazing Donyale Luna. He’s traveled the world and used to take photos for the pope in Vatican City. So went to the what’s called the Korean Market, which is like a dollar store but on crack and bought some cheap fake MAC make up.
Check out Piotr’s AMAAAZING photography here!
Not quite in time for Valentine’s Day but forgive me, I just moved across the world. Here are a few Black couples that have portrayed positivity, change, and above all else, love.
Every time I watch a movie I end up wanting to be in the movie. When I saw Spy Kids, I wanted to be a spy. When I saw X-men I wanted to be a mutant. Now that I saw The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo I want to a rapist torturing, gothic hacker. This movie was so intriguing, I had to go the 10pm show and when it started I was begging in my head for it to hurry up and be over so I can go home and go to sleep. As the movie progressed and I got passed the awkward stage of not understanding any of the plot because I haven’t read the books, I was hoping the movie would never end. I won’t get into the plot because you guys can IMDB that or whatever. I’m just going to talk about the underlying theme that spoke to me, which was, never play the victim role. All of the main characters, especially the women had been through so much abuse but they never submitted to it and they all fought back in one way or another. So in my idea the moral of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is don’t take abuse you have all the power and control in the world. You don’t have to be an antisocial private investigator like Lisbeth, you can be a rich schoolgirl like Harriet.
So now I have to read all the books because I love a realistic storyline. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Harry Potters and Disney movies but there’s nothing like a story that could happen on any given day.
1950s: Helen Williams
1970s: Naomi Sims
1980s: Beverly JohnsonThere were countless models and muses that inspired designers, artists, and women everywhere. I decided to start a frequent section of Keijing that acknowledges these women’s accomplishments. I know I didn’t put any of their bios but in the future I’ll post about them individually and trust me it’ll be goooood!!
So there’s this beautiful Ghanian-British girl that I follow on youtube named Laila. I watch her for hair tutorials, product reviews, and natural hair discussion.. She has a series called Nubian Thoughts which you should take a look at. And she a video contest for the month of February to do a parody of her and to win some nice prizes. I entered it, wish me luck, and I hope you enjoy the video.
Instead of accepting the divide and discrimination of the United States, a lot of black historians opted to settle in other countries around the world. Being international travelers made them see their possibilities to gain equality unlike in America…
As a traveler myself, I’m inspired by these peoples courage. Read more on the Black History section of Biography.com.
So the sun was out yesterday, does that mean the groundhog saw his shadow and spring’s begun? Anyway I went to walk Honey and got a bite to eat..
I wore a vintage silk peplum blouse purchased at the Painted Bird in San Francisco, American Apparel Riding Pants that I found at a thrift store for $15, and Keys flats.
I briefly mentioned something in the video about traveling which I’m going to expand on.
Here’s that coat I bought on Haight Street.. I plan to wear it in that harsh Beijing winter, belted or with jeans or sneakers, with dresses or heels, with black or green.. It’s very versatile!
She and I went all over the city the other. Started downtown then made our way to Japantown and then Haight and Ashbury. She’s the greatest, she designs beautiful eclectic jewelry which she’s working on launching for purchase..
